Helping governments manage rapid urbanisation
Over half of the world's population lives in urban areas, and the accelerating urbanisation rate is the highest in developing countries in Africa and Asia. Sustainable urban development is key to building societies that are sustainable socially, economically and environmentally, and to tackling urban poverty.
We have provided services ranging from technical assistance for project implementation, to institutional development, training and advisory services. We have broad experience across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.
What we do
- We work with civil society organisations and the private sector, creating partnerships that promote urban growth that supports people’s health and livelihoods and is environmentally and economically sustainable.
- We work with governments and public bodies to enhance policy frameworks to strengthen governance, and contribute to development planning, urban investments, and delivery of infrastructure services that help achieve goals on poverty reduction and economic growth.
- Our participatory and community-focused approach promotes the perspectives of poor and disadvantaged groups in urban planning, highlighting the need for planning that is gender-sensitive and inclusive.
- We promote the alignment of urban policy, financial planning and urban development strategies for maximum impact at the local and national levels.
