FCG Sweden conducts Annual Reviews of TradeMark East Africa
FCG Sweden in association with FCG Kenya and LTS International has been commissioned by TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) and DFID to carry out a total of six Annual Reviews between 2018 to 2023.
TMEA is an East African not-for profit Company Limited by Guarantee established in 2010 to support the growth of trade - both regional and international - in East Africa. TMEA currently has eight funding sources namely the governments of: Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, the UK and the USA. The TMEA Council commissions annual reviews as a joint effort between the investors and TMEA. The objectives established by the programme in its Strategy 2 are (1) to reduce trade costs in East Africa by 10%; (2) reduce the average time it takes to transport goods across the region by 15%; (3) increase exports by 25% in sectors supported by TMEA; and (4) leverage additional investment of US$170m into the region.
The 2018 Annual Review, soon to be completed, is the first annual review of the TMEA programme in Strategy 2 (2018-2023). The Annual Review team conducted country visits to Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda, with additional consultations for DRC taking place while in Burundi, and South Sudan while in Uganda.
DFID annually reviews the performance of every programme they fund, in order to challenge underperformance, suggest improvements and learn from both successful and unsuccessful programmes. These Annual Reviews follow a strict template and are subject to the DFID Smart Rules. The results of all Annual Reviews are published online, demonstrating an admirable commitment to transparency and scrutiny, and supplying fantastic data on the effectiveness of DFID’s programmes.
