FCG Sweden to launch new Sida Help Desk for Sub-Saharan Africa
FCG Sweden has established the Sida Help Desk for Democratic Governance & Human Rights in Africa, after winning the call-off late last year. The Help Desk will provide support to the Sida Africa Department and Embassies in Sub-Saharan Africa, to help staff in addressing democratic governance and human rights issues - issues central in Swedish developmental cooperation in both formulating strategy and implementation.
The Help Desk offers easily accessible, short-term advisory services, and consists of a core team of experienced experts with previous experience working with development cooperation, from local national contexts, and of course specific expertise in democratic governance and human rights.
Areas covered by the Help Desk are:
- Local Democracy and Decentralisation
- Political Institutions, Political Participation and Pluralism
- State-building, State Capacity and Public Administration
- Public Financial Management
- Aid Effectiveness including Results Based Aid and Results Based Financing
- Human Rights Systems, Defenders and Rule of Law
- Freedom of Expression and Media
- Human Rights Based Approach
A single point of contact for the Sida Help Desk manager, based in Stockholm, receives all assignments and is responsible for coordination and quality assurance.
Services provided are numerous and include formulating, implementing, monitoring/following up, reviewing and reporting - about both strategies for a particular country or result area, or about contribution portfolios or specific contributions. Available support are writing reports or other documents, making presentations, participating in seminars, participating in short-term missions, providing comments (written or oral) or advice, training or guidance, developing methodological guidance, and providing support and advice to co-operation partners on how to integrate/strengthen aspects of democratic governance and human rights in programmes and projects.
