ORGUT Working on the Roadmap for Regional Water Utilities in Palestine
ORGUT in consortium with FCG International has been awarded the Europeaid financed contract “Roadmap for the Creation of the Regional Water Utilities in the frame of the Water Sector Reform in Palestine”.
Palestinians in the West Bank are facing acute water shortages and poor water quality in the Gaza strip. The Water Law of 2014 foresees the establishment of Regional Water Utilities (RWUs) that shall maintain and operate the water service infrastructure, supply water to all customers in their service areas and provide wastewater management services.
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the establishment and operation of Regional Water Utilities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. It is planned to formulate a national Roadmap, setting out the requirements, methods and criteria for the establishment of RWUs. Furthermore RWU development plans shall be formulated for appropriate pilot areas which might become replicable and that shall give methodological inputs into the Roadmap. The project started in May 2016 and will continue for 18 months. The project location is in Ramallah.
