SIPU's work was financed and supported by the German development cooperation branch, GIZ, who viewed the programme as instrumental for underpinning Rwanda's current reforms in good governance and decentralisation.

- This project was really about breaking new ground, both for our Rwandan partners as well as for SIPU. Rwanda will now have an accredited Masters degree in Local Government that will be aligned with international academic standards whiile also ensuring highest possible degree of relevance and applicability for municipal officers in their everday work. This would not have been possible without the very firm committment and support from the Rwanda Local Government Association and GIZ, says Johan Engström, SIPU's Project Director.

The project sparked a considerable interest in Rwanda, exemplified by this newspiece in The New Times - Rwanda's leading English daily http://www.newtimes.co.rw/section/article/2015-02-06/185688/
